The port covers a total water area of 370 ha and a land area of 620 ha. It provides quays of 18.0 km in total length.

Port Gdansk consists of two separate ports:

- Nowy Port (Inner Port), where general cargoes, containers, fertilizer raw material and sulphur, ore, coal, timber and chemicals are handled and stored. It is able to accomodate vessels of lengths not exceeding 225m. and a max. draught of 10.2m. There are the Passengers Ferry and Ro-Ro Terminal are situated as well.
- Port Polnocny (Northern Port), it specializes in handling coal, crude oil and liquid fuels. It receives tankers and bulk carriers of lengths up to 300m. and max. draughts of 15,0m. up to 150,000 DWT (Baltmax type vessels).
