Port Szczecin is one of three principal sea ports of Poland. It is situated at the estuary of the Odra river into the Szczecin Firth, 65 km away from the open sea. The fairway Swinoujscie-Szczecin consist of several dragged channel sections with a depth of not less than 9,15 m. (fresh water) along the centerline and maximum width of 100 m. The sections are Kanal Mielenski, Kanal Piastowski, Wielki Zalew, Roztoka Odrzanska, the Odra River. Several quays in Swinoujscie handle general cargo, especially to/from the vessels of the size enabling entrance to the port of Szczecin or the completion of cargo on vessel loading first at Szczecin up to the limited draught. |  | ||
| Cargo-handling capacity of the Szczecin-Swinoujscie Port Authority amounts to over 25 million tonnes per annum including: 12,000,000 tonnes of coal, 4,200,000 tonnes of iron ore, 5,000,000 tonnes of other bulk cargo, 900,000 tonnes of grain, 3,000,000 tonnes of general cargo.
The port of Szczecin has at its disposal quays totalling in length of 19.5 km - 8 km of them provide berths equipped with cranes and draught up to 9.15 metres (12.8 metres in Swinoujscie). Port is able to accommodate vessels up to 210 m. in length. | |||
| Szczecin Port is equipped with over 130 portal bridges and overhead cranes with lifting capacities of 2 to 50 T, floating hook crane of 200 T for moving heavy lifts as well as floating grab cranes with 16 T capacity. Several hundred pieces of other handling equipment such as shiploaders, forklift trucks, mobile cranes, ro-ro trucks and container handlers ensure fast and safe transfer of cargo. |  | ||
| For storage of cargo the port offers:
- open storage of 240,000 m2 for bulk cargo and 370,000 m2 for timber and general cargo - 102,000 m2 covered storage in general cargo warehouses - the grain silo of 73,000 cbm capacity - cold storage with a 12,000 t capacity. | |||
